The new year has brought major political changes in Austria.

A political party was elected into the government, which has great problems with establishing a red line towards right-wing extremists. Again and again members of this political party and now of the Austrian government present themselves publicly through rabble-rousing, racist and anti-Semitic statements and a number of them are members of right-wing extremist’s organisations themselves.

It therefore is more important than ever to mark the “European Theatre Day of Tolerance”, which takes place on the 1st of February for the 7th time. All important theatres in Austria and other European countries show and confirm our position to openness and tolerance by reading a memorandum before their shows. This initiative is supported in Vienna by the Burgtheater, Theater in der Josefstadt, Volkstheater as well as by many other theatres, concert halls and houses of literature and this year, for the first time, also by the international PEN Club.

My breakfast-performance-series “Wild But Heart”, which I create once a month together with a guest, starts into the new year with wonderful and inspiring artists.

The breakfast contains coffee, tea, nourishment, literature, thoughts and music.

In February Julia Giebel, opera singer and long-term ensemble member of the Komische Oper Berlin is my guest. With artistic means we will fathom the topic “passions”.

It promises to be gripping.

The painter Linde Waber will honour us in April and state the topic “movement” from her point of view.

She already promised to draw “live”, which I highly esteem and am especially looking forward to.

It is a very sensual and unique experience, which one shouldn’t miss in any case.

Piano performer Therese Cafasso will support her.

Exactly 30 years ago I founded “Totales Theater”, Austria’s first Fringe Opera Company. After having created this necessity, the city administration of Vienna founded a budget for Fringe Opera.

Since then, many wonderful artists began to work in this city, creating a vibrant and innovative opera scene.

With our opera company “Totales Theater” and later “Schlüterwerke” we created a countless number of various productions in the most exciting venues, drawing a young and curious audience.

We are therefore planning a big anniversary celebration in summer!

The focus is on the theoretical and practical basics of Commedia dell’Arte, which determine the stories of libretti, plays and screenplays until today.

Another exclusive directing workshop will take place this spring.
From April 7 to May 26 we will meet every Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. and work on basics of theater-, opera- and film direction.
Since I only take a small number of participants, we can work very precisely on the individual wants and needs of every attendee.
